Last week, the GSDC’s Kaylene Parker attended the Institute of Public Administration Australia WA (IPAA WA) Achievement Awards, in support of a joint nomination for the Regional Drought Resilience Planning (RDRP) program for Best Practice in Collaboration Between Government and any other Organisation.

The Inland Great Southern Drought Resilience Plan champions drought resilience and preparedness by identifying some key actions and initiatives to help the region’s agribusinesses and agricultural communities to collaborate and better prepare for and manage drought risks.

The plan is an outstanding example of the community-based initiative that positively impacts on and delivers long-term benefits for the inland Great Southern.

While the GSDC missed out of the award this time, the collaborative team claim that the achievement was being nominated and laying the foundation to improve the climate resilience for regional WA.

With thanks to our partners Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD), Midwest Development Commission and Wheatbelt Development Commission for their ongoing commitment to this program. In particular, thank you to the local governments in the Great Southern inland area, technical experts and consultants who provided their expertise.
