Ministers Tour the Great Southern
The Minister for Regional Development and Minister for the Great Southern recently visited the region to engage with local stakeholders and gain firsthand insights into key initiatives and development opportunities.
Following the swearing in of the new WA Cabinet, both Minister Dawson and Minister Whitby, took the opportunity to connect with the Great Southern region.
In his new role as Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Stephen Dawson MLC visited the Great Southern in April. His itinerary included a tour of the Southern Ports Authority Albany Port, and visits to former RED Grant recipients, the Albany Business Centre and Westerberg Marine.
The GSDC team hosted an afternoon tea to welcome the Minister and introduce him to the Commission. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to brief the Minister face-to-face on regional projects, priorities, and challenges.
In addition, the Hon Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Police; Road Safety; Tourism; and Great Southern, undertook a regional tour to deepen his understanding of the area. The 3-day itinerary was designed to familiarise him with the Great Southern while also highlighting key aspects of his other portfolios.

During the visit, Minister Whitby met with stakeholders in Katanning, Mount Barker, Denmark, and Albany, including representatives from local government, the tourism and wine industries, and RED Grant recipients. He also visited regional police stations.
These ministerial visits are a positive step in strengthening the connection between the state government and the Great Southern region, setting the stage for continued collaboration.
