Australia’s South West (ASW) Annual General Meeting was held last month celebrating a year of projects including the release of Tourism Destination Management Plan (TDMP), a strategic initiative aimed at guiding tourism investment and development in the region over the next ten years.

Since 2021 the Great Southern Tourism and Trade Partnership between the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC) and ASW has sought to enhance the region’s engagement with marketing and promotion, events, tourism product development, and destination development.

The TDMP is one of many achievements that has resulted from this partnership which has produced a comprehensive roadmap to identify and address the region’s tourism development needs.

Underpinning TDMP on a local level are two Regional Tourism Development Strategy action plans focusing on the South West and Great Southern regions.

“We are excited to support the launch of the Tourism Destination Management Plan, which will serve as a vital tool in guiding tourism investment and development in our region,” said GSDC Acting Chief Executive Officer Jarrad Gardner.

“This plan, alongside the Great Southern Regional Tourism Development Strategy, reflects a commitment to enhancing the visitor experience and growing our tourism economy by leveraging our natural advantages and vibrant local industries.”

With the aim to develop a more mature tourism product, this ten-year vision is that the ASW region is a globally renowned destination of ancient Aboriginal culture, natural beauty, exceptional produce, creative communities and iconic adventures.
