Growth and Diversification

Major projects in the Great Southern focused on growth and diversification are listed below.

Breath Feature Film: Breath Productions is making a feature film of Tim Winton’s award-winning novel Breath. A $2.3 million investment by the State Government, including $1.5 million from Royalties for Regions, helped to secure Denmark as the film site. Location filming took place in the first half of 2016 and the film is expected to premiere in 2017.

Biomass Fuel Pellets: Plantation Energy is planning to resume the export of densified biomass fuel pellets manufactured from sustainably managed bluegum plantation forests. Production of 250,000t per annum is expected. Operations were suspended in 2012, but the proponent is planning to resume in 2017.

GD Pork Expansion: A $14.5 million expansion project by GD Pork Pty Ltd will double production to 75,000 pigs per year. The project includes the construction of new finisher sheds, feed mill sheds, additional worker accommodation and an anaerobic digester that will convert waste material into power for use at the site. The project is due to be completed by December 2016.
