The facility can manage up to 45,000 sheep per sale, or 1.2 million sheep per year, and incorporates high standards in handling, occupational safety, animal welfare and sustainability. The facility features water capture and solar power generation.

The saleyard facility was officially opened in May 2014. The created freshwater lake at Piesse Park will be filled by stormwater collected at the saleyard and piped into town. The water from the lake will be used to improve the amenity of Piesse Park, complementing Katanning’s beautification of the main street, and for the irrigation of adjoining public open space.
